Which Romney? George or Mitt? And I don't understand your argument. It'd be silly to claim the Romneys are as Mexican as Gonzalo Curiel. The Romneys are just part of a weirdo religious sect that had a sojourn in Mexico running from American law enforcement because their ancestors liked to have twenty fifteen year old wives.

Mitt Romeny's Dad is Mexican, that makes Mitt a Mexican. You can't get rid of Mexican citizenship or all the Mexicans in the US would have to bail on Mexico.

George Romney was Governor of Michigan and was an Anglo-Saxon and son of American parents. Being born in Mexico did not divest him of his essentially American character. He was even eligible to run for POTUS and did. He could not do that and simply be Mexican.
Gonzalo Curiel, on the other hand, is the son of real Mexicans. He fits the bill - Spanish surname, mestizo phenotype, connections to groups with Mexican nationalist tendencies. Indeed, one of the founders of this lawyers' group he's with bragged about Hispanics taking over California.

George Romney wasn't even Hispanic at all.
