I think the biggest thing here is that he's not leaving DC.

How, after 8 years of being THE MAN, can you stay in that town as a nobody? What is he going to be doing there in DC as an ex-President? Does he love the attention that much? And if so, what happens when the new big dog in town is getting all the attention, and no one is paying attention to him? What business does he have anymore in the capitol that he would stay there? I mean, sure he might want to stay in DC for the safety of NOT being in Chicago (ha!), but what's wrong with Hawai'i or a Chicago burb or even a high-rise on Lakeshore Drive?

When has an ex-President not gone home, but rather, stayed in DC? Teh only 2 I can think of is John Quincy Adams who went back to being Speaker of the House and William Howard Taft, who became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. What is Obama's angle on staying going to be?

My understanding is that he's staying in DC so his kids can finish school there.
