Nope, you just think that way because you were spanked or "disciplined" as a child, and so you need to rationalize it as something good. I used to have the same problem.

In essence, "discipline" boils down to doing what your parents want you to do, and not doing anything they don't. For example, they don't want you to inconvenience them, and so you get punished for doing that.

As a random example, maybe they set dinner time at 1800 sharp, and then punish you for not being on time or not wanting to eat or whatever, just because they find it inconvenient.

You see, there's no reason why you'd genuinely need to eat at that precise time. Maybe you're just not hungry yet? Maybe you want to do something else instead? There's nothing wrong with that. The world doesn't end and food can be stored in a fridge etc and you can just take it out when you do want it.

But if you don't eat "when it's time", your parents perceive a need for Discipline and punish you, even though you haven't actually done anything wrong.

Look into "peaceful parenting" if you need more information.
