I've been harping on this exact point in every transgender argument I get in to. A post-op suicide rate of 20x the normal population indicates there are still severe psychological issues. Just like body dysmorphia leads to constant surgeries (that the psychiatric community advises against, while advocating for sex changes somehow) to the point of self-harm (as well as risky behavior, etc.)... like this guy... I don't know why the psychiatric community doesn't see the parallels. Probably because the "science" is heavily influence by social pressure.

The high suicide rate also ignores all of the other factors like criminal behavior as well. Everything is higher/worse for MtF transition.

I wonder if its not because, if not for the risk of child-bearing, women tend to have it easier in society. So men under extreme duress who find themselves unable to cope as men in this world, especially in a world that is ever more intolerant of raucous "manly" behavior, where you can be persecuted just for being a man... I wonder if some men don't transition for the simple fact that they think it might be easier to live as a woman. I think about this because the Olympics recently changed their rules to allow men to compete as women, and I am certain, without a doubt that there will be men who spend their entire lives training for the Olympics, only to miss the qualifying spot by one place, then look to the women's division where they can get gold. Athletes raised and willing to sacrifice anything/everything for the gold will sacrifice anything and everything for the gold.

The new interpretation of title VII of the equalities act (changed to benefit trans people) means title IX now forces university women's sports teams to accept anyone who says they're a woman. Sport will be very different in the future.

Well... it will be for women. The men's leagues won't change. Now watch and laugh as the blue-haired crowd has to allow all women's sports to be entirely taken over by men that couldn't quite cut it in men's sports.

Very well said, @inyour..., seriously think you hit on it. I've strongly suspected the same for years, the idea that transitioning from male, often seen as a more difficult life path from the male perspective ... to female, appeals to some because of the reasons you outlined so well. Yet once there, the realization hits that maybe it isn't as easy as they thought. Both sexes have their pluses and minuses, strengths and weaknesses. I also think the field of psychiatry is a shady, social science at best, and pushes a left leaning agenda and has for years, with dubious 'science' to back it up at best. Basically, for fun and profit, I seriously think modern psychology enables much of this rather than treating it as it should be, simply seeing it in the terms of their generally liberal mindset, as somehow normal.

It may indicate horrible post surgery care? Or Pre surgery prep.

Society itself is a fucking disease though and maybe if sexuality weren't used to rape everyone into buying every fucking thing, let alone to grow inequality amongst ourselves while the elitists keep fucking us all harder, people might evolve to realize that it shouldn't form the basis of their existence or they won't be fucking happy. Ask any porn star.

You can't compare post-op suicide rate with general population. You must compare it to pre-op transgender rates. Pre-ops also kill themselves at tragic rates because of their difficulty fitting into society.

The point is that there are high suicide rates for both pre- and post-op which is more evidence of it being a mental illness. The fact that the post-op suicide rates are still that much higher than gen-pop lends credence that the surgery is not a valid treatment of the illness.

I'd have trouble fitting in to society too if I yelled at anyone that didn't address me as Attack Helicopter.

You can, they did, and it's a very telling comparison. It suggests that even after transition, there is a far-from-healthy psyche that remains. I understand that suicide rates are bad before surgery as well, which is why I said "still severe psychological issues" in my original post. When you compare to suicide attempts by pre-ops, it suggests that transitioning actually isn't a big help. I think many of these people are just uncomfortable in their own skin, with a fixation on genitalia as the root cause. When that cause is removed and nothing changes in their heads, of course suicide seems like a viable option.

I still (and will likely always) fall on the side of treating the mind to fit reality, not warping reality to fit the mind.
