"Institutionalized discomfirmation" is the very reason that academia is given credibility as an appeal to ethos. The premise behind their appeal is not simply that they have read on the subject, it is more than that; it is that their opinions, observations, and relevant examples have been scutinized and debated by other academics. Without that interrogaton of ideas, I might as well use my well-read aunt as a source.
