This is only one of the many areas where forensic findings are less certain than many have been led to believe. Even DNA analysis has error sources.

Considering how inept the feds are at everything else, I wouldn't be surprised if they were confused as to why they couldn't use hair samples to track skinheads...

Junk science swallowed by everyone because of decades of lies. Add it to the list with blood spatter investigations, arson forensics, "anonymous tipsters", etc. You have these assholes sitting on the stand blatantly lying their entire career just to get the conviction. Hair follicle analysis.. Jesus fucking Christ, it's amazing they weren't laughed out of the room.

Of course, there's no vetting of this Shit, just a paid shill..err..I mean expert, paid by the state to provide an official and convincing sounding lie for the prosecution

Let them all off. That will teach the FBI the seriousness of using dubious methods. Next up the lie detector, hand writing analysis, and psychological profiling.

Racial profiling works, though; too bad it's not "PC". If the description of a perp matches "a six-foot-four African American male with gang tattoos on his face and arms", you're not going to have much luck catching the crook in Pennsylvania Dutch Country or Chinatown. Or if a mass shooter shouts "Allahu Ackbar" as he's wiping out people at a movie theater catching the latest Spielberg flick, you're not going to have much luck finding him (if he escapes) or his associates at an atheists' convention or a Jehovah's Witness temple. 100% of Islamic terrorists have been Islamic; gee, ya think we should seek out Presbyterians? Just in case...

You missed fingerprint forensics, which is not science, not even junk science. Because there is rarely (never really) a full, clean fingerprint to compare.

OLD OLD News. Story is a year old. Everyone knows this nonsense has been going on, and they new it more than a year ago. People have to start checking the date before posting.
