Just want to see if anyone else has experienced something similar. I have noticed that over the last year or so, my interest in watching tv shows (series), movies, or even reading fiction has waned tremendously.
Now, I wouldn't say I was ever a massive consumer of such media (besides reading), but I had a steady stream, for example, of shows I would watch. The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, The Expanse, Stranger Things, the Marvel movies/shows etc. etc--basically whatever these entertainment houses are throwing out that sort of veers somewhat into the subversive these days. I do have a somewhat discerning taste, i.e. I wouldn't watch everything that's thrown out, but there was a pretty steady roll of stuff that I would throw on while eating or whatever.
But as I said, over the last year my interest in consuming such entertainment seems to have disappeared, and I feel like it has something to do with Trump becoming president. There is this tremendous (hah) feeling that nothing being presented can in any way be that relevant or even interesting, given what is happening in real life. There is a disconnect that I feel between the motivations behind creating these shows, the messages they are conveying, and the massive fucking blowhole that is now our government and daily life. It's a little hard to describe, but it feels kind of like if you were to be watching Mickey Mouse cartoons while your wife is leaving you, you lose your job, and your house is slowly falling apart in flames around you.
It is not a frantic thing. It is not that I am so alarmed or distressed that I won't watch the shows. Nor is it that I'm utterly depressed; I mean, I'm not a psychologist and maybe there is some deep seated depression working there, but it's not making me dysfunctional in any regard (other than this one issue). It's simply that I'm finding it hard to bring myself to care about any of these stories. And it purely has to do with passive entertainment--there has been no change in my consumption of video games or other interactive media.
As I'm in my 40s, I'm pretty attuned by now to my tastes and habits, and I believe I can distinguish between the gradual shifts in interests that occur in my life (as they do for everyone), but I feel this is a more pronounced effect and that it is linked quite directly to the change in our government.
Anyway, that was kind of a rant, and I realize the 'snowflakiness' one could attribute to the situation (heh), but I was just curious if anyone else has noticed anything similar with themselves.
Stay safe fam, can't even watch The Walking Dead because of Trump.
More like your mental illness like most of Resetera makes you unable to enjoy life and you become permanently miserable. Maybe one day you will realize that is on you, and has nothing to do with Trump. You're projecting your own failings in life onto someone else and crying about it.
The reason your bogeyman is some Canadian like Peterson is because one of the most basic messages he says is you are responsible for your own life and responsibilities. Not the Government giving you handouts or crying about "oppression". I'm oppressed on a gaming forum fam, literally dodging bullets and hate!
There is your free advice, from the right, I mean from a nazi, so please ignore it and go back to saying you can't enjoy life because Trump.
