What ever happened to pirating? This streaming shit makes no sense to me. I'd rather the industry didn't make a damn penny.

Cut out the middlemen and buy directly from the artists if possible.

There's some hobo who plays a banjo and sings near my local grocery store. He gets a couple bucks from me once in a while, because I genuinely enjoy his playing (I don't give money to the homeless just because they're homeless).

If you know anyone deserving, by all means support them. I think music is something to make because you love it. Not for shekels. Music is my favorite hobby (playing, not listening), but I also have a real job.

I could get behind a travelling band or something, but I don't see why anyone should b3come a millionaire because of music. If you loved it, you would want to share it.

The industry is certainly despicable. But this affects the artist too, maybe you should support streaming services that are owned by the artists and give directly to the artists e.g. TIDAL.

Anyone who cares about supporting the artists can certainly do that. Personally I don't care what happens to them. It's too late to get any nickels or dimes to CCR, and I can't think of a single living artist I care about.

So, you expect people to write and perform music just for you without being paid for their work? Sounds like a pinko Commie belief to me. I'm sure you get up and go to work everyday without being paid for it.

They can also get jobs. I couldn't care less how they feed themselves. All I know is it won't be my money. They can just stop making music. I have zero problem with that.

Or I could pirate exactly what I want commercial free.

The problem is finding good music, I like heavy metal but putting that into any kind of search brings up the standard heavy metal that has been played a 100 million times over on the radio for the past 30 years or that fucking movie, I'm sick of that shit I want new stuff.

nevermind.

I would like to know if you have to do it often. Or do you just not allow updates. My PC version updates pretty often. I currently pay because we use it a lot and it's well worth the $10 we pay.

I miss grooveshark. Content rich, rare stuff you'll never be able to find like old classical music. That was the best streaming service ever and it is gone forever. I went straight back to torrenting.

I just changed my hosts file to block every single ad domain used on spotify. Only works on PC spotify but I get to listen to what I want when I want with zero ads (providing what I want is on spotify in the first place and/or I have the files myself).

Warning reddit link for how-to: https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/4kn6rq/comprehensive_guide_to_blocking_ads_on_spotify/

Small edit: Some sites become broken after changing your hosts file up like that due to the sheer amount of bullshit. Mostly vape sites from my personal browsing.

I use a hosts file too. Works like magic. Amazing the payload of shit that gets dragged along on a lot of sites. I'm used to seeing over 200 useless http requests for each page. Amazing to see the speed of pages load after you turn off the crap.

I use indieshuffle. It's great, you find the newest, hottest shit way before it makes it on the radio. Each track has a "sounds like " and lists 3 other bands, then 3 genres (all six of which are clickable to hear more like whatever you clicked on) and a few paragraphs written about the band or the track. It's curated, but it's great. You can create playlists, FREE, play music, FREE, no ads EVER. I love it.
