I recommend it.
It’s a documentary about a guy who owns a Delorean that he mocked up to look like the Back to the Future time machine and rents it out for promotional events (parties, store openings, etc). It breaks down, and on a whim he decides to go all out on he rebuild and break the world record quarter mile drag time for Deloreans.
I expected it to be like a similar themed documentary called OUTATIME which is about a group of guys restoring one of the original BttF prop cars to original movie quality. That movie was fairly straightforward. There was some story there, about how the prop fell into disrepair and how difficult it was to find exact replacements for props that were constructed from parts that are hard to find, but otherwise it was a simple premise of a long meticulous restoration of the movie prop. I’d recommend that movie too if you’re interested in the topic.
Fastest Delorean started in a similar way. It was a straightforward story about a guy learning about the quarter mile speed record, so he sends his car to his mechanic brother who spends the first half of the movie rebuilding the engine. Then about mid way through, there’s a twist that gives the story a little depth. I’ll leave it at that. The guy has a pretty good story to tell, though, and being a small independent documentary about cars, it doesn’t have any propaganda shit in it like everything else these days does. Check it out if you get the chance.
