Thanks. Forbes was pissing me off with that "turn off the pesky adblock message".

It requires GreaseMonkey (or a similar extension), but you can use FuckFuckAdblock to stop that message from ever showing again (after the first time it registers that you "don't use" an adblocker, that is).

That was actually a good article in that it takes a negative review and counters it with valid points. I enjoyed the movie, personally, and I grew up on Star Wars. So what if it didn't please all the neck beards.

I think Voat in general is just obsessed with hating stuff.

That movie could have been perfect, and the neckbeard permavirgins like @GapingAnus and @EdSnowden would be bitching and crying about how it was "too perfect".

I really wanted to like the movie. It was okay I guess, but I don't happily spend $10 for 2 hrs of mediocrity.

Hatred leads to power.

How dare people not like what I like they must clearly be some kind of degenerate NERD who is a virgin unlike the super cool people who have the exact same opinions as I have!

I agree. I grew up on Star Wars and thought Awakens did the franchise justice.

As far as Solo is concerned, in A New Hope Solo was painted with the ant-hero brush early on (shot Greedo first, only helped Luke/Obi Wan for $$, only helped save Leia for the promise of $$, etc.) and I feel like Awakens just continues with that train of thought. Awakens has a solid plot continuation that wasn't ruined by a shit character like Jar-Jar. So score on that front.

Kylo is evil, moody and confused just like Anakin, I liked that. Great character.

But who was the giant, Golem-looking master evil character? Supreme Leader Snookie?

Whats that about?

Speculation seems to lean towards either it being the undead ghost of Palpatine or the undead ghost of Palagious. Both have precedent in the old canon. Personally I'm hoping it's the latter.

I am re-watching all of them and I noticed that the emperor actually does appear via enlarged hologram to Vader in Empire Strikes Back, something I totally hadn't remembered. I'm guessing he's the emperor's predecessor, but I could be wrong.

I'm interested in this as well. His face is so disgusting, but at the same time its almost...beautiful. His imposing figure is almost like that of a marble statue, imo.

I don't even like Star Wars as a film franchise, but dearly enjoy the video game side of it and the stories surrounding much of the EU and Old Republic, and that is to say I enjoyed the film.

I felt like it put a new spin on some of the EU honoring a small part of it and paid homage to its origins, might have relied a bit too much on paying a bit too much homage but that aside my only real gripe is the script felt flat and the cast lacked chemistry.

I have very low expectations of Hollywood and thought this movie would suck, but I wasn't prepared for a fucking black hole of suck. I can honestly say that I prefer the prequels to whatever the fuck It was I watched last week.

It meet all of my expectations.

Of course my expectations were that it would be as bad as the prequels so that's not saying much.

It was bad. It took everything that was established in the past movies and said it basically didn't matter anymore. At this rate, the next trilogy is going to have babies that can beat SIth Lords with the force. The whole franchise is becoming a joke.

I disagree....it followed the lore very well.

The 'how did finn use that lightsaber' is probably the only legitimate complaint I have with the movie. That didn't make sense.

But pretty much everything else was consistent with the lore, and much of it was justified in the former EU.

The whole 'rey beat kylo with one hand behind her back' thing was deliberately trying to show you that kylo was a piece of shit sith who has the fighting capability of Jar Jar, while rey had been surviving more or less on her own for years.

No idea what they're gonna do with VIII or IX though. Personally I'm hoping that Finn doesn't make it to the end and that the imperial guys end up walking way Fen Empire style.

Yeah I get that vibe too. I loved that movie. Been a fan since I was a kid. I think a lot of the negativity is that a lot of the fan base really liked it, and non-fans don't like how much it's been hyped and promoted. They don't want anyone to like it, so they talk a lot of smack. I'm not a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and other large fan base works. It doesn't mean they suck (I enjoyed them, just not fanatically), it just means it's not your thing. Some douche on here even spoiled the ending for me and I still loved it. Haters don't want the fan base to enjoy any of it. Sorry, but real fans know they marketed the hell out of it back with the original trilogy. Hell, they even played it again in theaters years after it came out. That doesn't happen to shitty movies. It's entertaining, and critics don't want to hear how much fans have been waiting for this film. These movies were never oscar worthy, they're just fun to watch. I don't know anyone personally who disliked the movie. But then again, my friends don't hate for the sake of jumping on the bandwagon. It all comes down to an opinion. That's all it is. I'm sure I'll get some bitchy reply about how stupid I am for liking it, but I don't care. I don't think the story and acting sucked. But someone will point out many opinions why I should think it was terrible. Sorry bro, you're not going to make a fan base going back to the seventies hate something that they've grown to love since childhood. I'm not a huge fan of the prequel trilogy, but I still enjoyed many parts of them.

You never met someone who disliked Force Awakens? Well, you met one now. Not only this film ugly, it's downright repulsive. The ridiculous digital effects can not paper over the outright hate that Kathleen Kennedy and her suck up husband have for Lucas' success with the original trilogy. I don't blame George for selling SW and Lucasfilm. He's certainly got his reasons for getting out of the business. But, the hypocrisy and the ridiculous way JJA totally kills of Han and then blows up the god damn franchise was so nauseating that I was literally hurling in the Regal toilet.

I saw a few previews and thought it looked terrible. I saw the extended trailers and it didn't do anything for me. I own 1 through 6 and have watched them each a handful of times.

There is no hype here for me and my expectations are really low I will wait for Redbox for a buck rental before I make my final decision.

I was in the same boat as you, even going so far as to say that the trailer made every single character look boring and uninteresting to me. I compared it to the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, which made me instantly know that I'd like all the main characters.

However, I then saw SW and ended up liking all the characters, with Finn in particular being the best thing about the movie for me.

Nope.

Star Wars movies have never been the best movies, or the smartest, or the ones with the deepest characters personalities. They have an interesting mythology, but people puts too many faith in them.

It was full of eye candy, good references to the original ones and was fun. However was expecting a opera prima is in love with the wrong franquise.

I have seen the first Star Wars and Episode 1. That's it. The first was meh, and I can barely remember anything at all about Episode 1. Lately, I can understand why Star Wars would go balls out with marketing until people start to hate it... As someone who couldn't care less about the franchise, Star Wars almost never gets a blip on my radar.

If you haven't seen Empire you haven't seen the movie that really gave Star Wars the legs it has. That movie built upon IV and elevated all the characters and concepts into what's basically a perfect sci-fi/action movie.

The film has flaws for sure, the chief of which is that analytically its a retread of A New Hope.

Saying that it was disappointing is pretty hard on it though IMHO. It was a really fun film and reminded me of the feeling I had when leaving the cinema from the first Pirates of the Carribean film. It was just a big old ball of fun, and also extended the stories of some of cinemas greatest characters.

Was it the greatest film of the last thirty years? No chance.

Was it a one of the most enjoyable films of the last thirty years? Absolutely.

Fun is subjective. I am a huge fan and went in wanting to love it. Even dragged my poor, non-Star Wars-loving husband to it because I was sure it would be good thanks to all the reviews.

I was ready to leave halfway through the movie. It wasn't just bad because it recycled New Hope - the pacing was breathless, many things were nonsensical and left unexplained, and most of the characters were very unlikeable:

  • Rey was fine until they revealed her to be a ridiculous Mary Sue Jedi goddess. That was absurd and not in line with the lore at all.
  • Finn was obnoxious and served no purpose in the film besides crying about Rey. I find it extremely hard to believe that an apparent Death Star janitor is suddenly going to be thrown into his first battlefield for a mission as critical as finding BB-8.
  • Kylo Ren was a hilariously unthreatening Sith after the opening ended. Everyone in my theatre laughed when he took off his mask - he looked like a gangly teenager who stumbled into the wrong film.
  • Most of the character cameos were extremely disappointing - Leia sounds like she's been hitting the cigs and was less expressive than BB-8, Han acted more like a confused grandpa than a smuggler, and that ending scene with Luke was filmed and edited extremely poorly.

BB-8 was fine, if a bit silly, and it was nice to see Chewie again. I would've liked to see more of Poe since he provided some great comic relief and some much need charisma to the group, but it sounds like he probably won't be in another movie because he was never meant to survive this one.

I also had a big problem with the fact that they never explained the politics behind the rise of the First Order and why the hell there were "Rebels" while there's a perfectly fine Republic. It felt awfully forced for the sake of recreating the conflict in A New Hope.

I could have forgiven a 3rd Death Star, stupid as it is, if they had explained things a bit more.

Instead, this movie crammed as many action scenes and explosions into its 2.5 hour runtime as possible while neglecting the actual story, and any real character or lore building. At least the prequels, shit as they were, tried to deepen the lore and expand the universe rather than re-tread old planets by giving them new names.

Very disappointing film for me - maybe the next 2 will be better since Abrams won't be the writer/director.
