Elba is absolutely nothing like Roland of Gilead.

I'm so tired of forced diversity being crammed down our throats for the sake of being PC.

He is nothing at all like Roland, and it pisses me off that they are shoehorning another black actor into a white role to fill some imaginary diversity quota.

I just boycott these 'diversity' movies and pretend they don't exist. I.E. Star Wars is dead to me, it's last century as far as I'm concerned.

Someone brought up one good point against casting a black man. The relationship with Detta would have to be redone quite a bit. She hates Roland and Eddie because they are "honky mahfahs". During the whole Susana thing it is mentioned quite a few times that she is the only black person they have seen for a long time. It can be done still but it requires a lot of work. That said, I would definitely prefer a black actor who has chops to play Roland as opposed to forcing someone who can't carry it into the role.

The obvious choice here is to also make Eddie black, and Susannah white. /s

There are a half dozen actors I could name off the top of my head who could fit Rolands pensive, grim, and somber stature better than Elba.

I like him as an actor and while maybe he could play a similar role (good actors can be surprisingly good at roles that seem odd if given all the right tools) but not Dark Tower. They're going to make the racist black woman white, aren't they?

It will be shit no matter who plays Roland. So fuck it all anyway.

Exceptionally poor choice. Hilariously enough, Daniel Craig might make the perfect Roland.

I'll support this if they also change to the Man in White.

I'm more worried about McCaughnehey being cast as the man in black. That character wasn't even really a character in the series, he was a boogeyman. Its been a few years so I'm probably wrong but I don't even remember him having any lines.

SPOILERS!!!

He does after Roland catches him after sacrificing Jake and passing under the mountain. He does a reading for Roland, and predicts the events of the next book. The Prisoner, The Lady of Shadows, and Sailor, The Hanged Man, Life and Death ("But not for you Gunslinger") and The Tower are all drawn.

Thanks. But is that enough to warrant an A-list actor? Don't get me wrong, I loved McCaughnehey in Dallas Buyers and True Detective, I just don't get that casting choice.

Edit: the thing that worries me is they are going to try and make RF more of a character.
