Fair enough, but 'bringing balance to the force' is a vague prophecy. The Matrix took the same path, hard to poke holes in a prophecy that's hard to pinpoint to begin with.

Luke wasn't strictly light-side, either. He used force choke at Jabba's palace, he used intimidation and threats to get his way, and force-kicked a guy while over the sarlacc pit.

There's also the magic cave o' reflection scene:
"What's in there?"
"Only what you take with you... Your weapons: you will not need them."
Luke takes his weapons in anyway. He's ready for a fight, even though he was told (albeit indirectly) that taking anger in with him would bring anger out.

I always interpreted the choking and such as meaning you were allowed to be violent and still be good. I even thought that Luke could use "force lightning" is he chose to, though using it to torture someone would certainly be Dark. Being a Jedi meant you were deeply connected with the world around you, and the "force choke" was just a clever application of moving matter at a distance. You could "force heart stop" if you wanted.

It wasn't until the prequels that it was established that you gained certain abilities as you went down the path of the dark side. Also, all that pansy shit about how Light-side Jedi has to be weird assholes trained from infancy and forbidden from love was nonsense. Luke murdered like 50,000 people on the Death Star and he was still good, but if you're a Jedi who falls in love suddenly your brain gets corrupted and you turn evil? It's just all a bunch of meaningless bullshit.
