On IMDB, Reddit, and Rotten Tomatoes, the reviews for The Last Jedi are all really, really high. Like unbelievably, ridiculously high for a movie that is objectively garbage. When searching YouTube, the reviews are basically all positive with minor token complaints thrown in.
TLJ shits on the characters and storylines from the previous trilogy, replaces them all with bland characters that are hand-picked to be as demographically diverse as possible (I'm surprised there wasn't a transgender character, honestly)... The plot is rambling and incoherent, and even scenes that should be very serious in tone have to have some random quip from one character or another that ruins the emotional gravity of what is going on. Not to mention the obvious merchandising critters added to sell more bullshit to kids.
I could go on and on about why I didn't like this movie... I mean, what the fuck a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes? Does Disney own (or otherwise buy off) every single film review site? Even the Starwars subreddit, which hates everything new, only has positive comments upvoted to the top of their subreddit, and seems to either artificially filter or outright remove negative comments about the film.
It's been legitimately difficult for me to find a real critical review of this movie of why this movie is terrible; there has to be someone who has done it, but its proven ridiculously hard to find. What is going on here?
