The first time I watched John Wick, I was blown away by his cold rage. You can tell he's pissed, but he never loses control. The second time I watched it, I was impressed by how much savagery is contained in the choreography. They nailed this movie.
While we are praising Uwe Boll also check out Rampage (the original, 2 was incredibly bad). It is a surprisingly intelligent movie that is written really well around the spree killing premise.

I have seen all of those except Uwe Boll's, I will be sure to check it out! Also, very good call with The Professional, he would give John Wick a run for his money.
If you haven't seen it yet I would also recommend The Raid and Tom Yum Goong for awesomely choreographed action sequences that still feel raw and visceral.
I found the movie mostly to be your standard fare action movie. However, dude going nuts because of a dog and not you're average "my brother/wife/girlfriend" trope was a nice touch.
I enjoyed that they didn't kill us with exposition and try to explain everything. Like the Gold Coins. Nobody told us what they did, we all just figured it out. We have no real idea where they came from, or why... and none of us care. The group he was a part of is a complete mystery and it's so much better that way.
Movies try to hard to explain everything sometimes... and all that does is ruin the mystique and open up plot holes. Sometimes less information is more.
Agreed, Keanu doesn't have much dialog throughout the movie, but you still know what he is thinking. Reminds me of Hardy's Mad Max character, I'm pretty sure he only said 3 complete sentences in the whole movie.
Not really as visceral or necessarily in the rage revenge genre, but I always felt V in V for Vendetta was an amazingly badass protagonist. Always so calm and collected while dishing out extreme justice, hugo weaving is such an amazing actor to get so much across in a mask.

Well put. The savagery was also applied to the gun shots. Every shot fired had a purpose and just seemed more violent then normal gun fire in movies.

I have to fully agree. you can almost feel his rage.

Also, Falling Down
1993 so it's not as violent and crazy... but dude totally loses his shit and it's classic.

I could see them working together, or crossing paths and agreeing on an armistice when in proximity of each other.

Thirteen Assassins
EDIT: And I really didn't like John Wick that much...It felt too much choreographed.

Best part of the film was the action and directing, story was on the weak side but didn't matter for all the cool shots.

The story feels better if you think of the film as a disaster flick, and John is a force of nature.
