Without going into detail plot wise, Psycho-Pass is a show depicting a dystopian future, similar to Orwell's "1984" and Ray Bradbury's "Farhenheit 451", in which society (from the looks of things Japanese society) has developed into social setting where individuals psychology, or "psycho-pass" as the show calls it, is constantly under evaluation, preventing criminal behavior by snuffing out criminals that have negative psycho-pass levels.
The reason I say if you are a writer to watch this is because this show handles its source material very well, and is the only show I have seen that utilizes true allusion to other works as a source of material to expound its ideas. Plenty of writers and philosophers are mentioned first hand in the show, either mentioned by characters or even appearing as physical books that many of the characters are seen reading. If you are a writer, the best way I could describe this show is, "a writer's wet dream", with pretty consistent action, and well thought out and original noir plot, and interest in keeping the audience informed and even go so far as to suggest material that the viewer should look into after having finishing the series. It was interesting, something I was not expecting in fact, and has inspired me to try and use this mode of literary deliverance in any of my own personal future writings.
It is all handled so well, and it is what sticks out the most to me with regards to this show and its writing. I would suggest sub just because I think the subbed voices match the characters more appropriately, but the dub is still good from what I saw (I am not that guy). Still, if you have been wanting something to watch lately and are up for what is in my opinion one of the best narratives in an anime from a literary perspective, watch this. It will not disappoint, I guarantee.
