Nobody pays me for cooking food yet cooking is still a profession.

Though one problem with journalism is that they seldom sell articles, reviews or even opinions anymore. At least not primarily, instead they sell online-ads, as few people buy subscriptions for their content. And to sell those ads they use clickbait and outrage instead of good content.

Cooking is a profession because it requires an actual skill and at the end you get a product that has inherent value.
