As a lark, I checked to see if there was a v/math and, well, here I am.
I once got bitched at for doxxing myself, but I'm pretty easily identified.
Why is that important?
It's important because I hold a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and I feel people should be able to verify this. (MIT, I modeled traffic.)
My point is, I'm not here that often but would some sort of regular Q&A or some targeted discussion about the language of mathematics be of interest to anyone? I'd be happy to do something like that.
For example, I'd pick today's subject as this:
The '...' is short-form that means you repeat the last digit to infinity.
So, 0.999... = 0.99999999999999... = 0.999999999999999 (with repeating the 9 to infinity).
However, 0.999 = 1
And, I can prove it.
Things like that... In the above example, I can not only explain why, the proof, and why I'm willing see alternative reasonings for the proof. I'm also among the folks who will admit that it is true but it is both absurd and contrived.
Would that sort of thing be welcomed? And, no... I won't do your homework.
