Knowing Garry? That's exactly how he feels. He's an insufferable cunt who lucked into success with gmod, and the only reason that took off is because people with more talent turned his janky piece of shit into something usable.

I'm sure you're right. I regret buying the game, but my kid wanted it so he could play with his buddy. Saved up his money and everything.

GMod is great with stuff like Wiremod and Carter's Addon Pack (stargate stuff) installed, and it is a fantastic creative outlet for kids. I wouldn't regret buying it at all if I were you, even if Garry is a no-talent piece of shit. The E2 chips in Wiremod are responsible for a lot of junior coders out there today.
That's why it really disappoints me that he has such a shitty attitude towards his own customers. I remember trying to get a spacebuild server running on a linux server, ended up having to jump through SO MANY HOOPS just to get it to load. Shit like making sure I was using a non-case sensitive filesystem, using hacky third-party DLLs (yes, DLLs) to get basic functionality working, etc. His response to the bug reports was literally "use a real OS, lol".
Even with all that, it was still unstable as hell and would segfault outright if you so much as looked at it wrong. On the bright side, I learned a ton of new sysadmin tricks while trying to wrangle that bloated monstrosity.
