TLDR: 5e Thursdays from 6pm CST to 10pm CST with a 20 min break around 8. You must be able to chat via skype throughout the week and work on your character between sessions. Those with Fantasy Grounds experience will be preferred. RAW PHB, no splat, point buy with +2/-2 mod, difficult combat.
Hello! My name is Aaron and I am a long time DM, ready to get back into running some games. I have DM'd 5e since the VERY FIRST playtest, back when it was called DnD Next. Im very familiar with 5e and have been running it several sessions a week since october of 2013. Previously, I ran several campaigns via Roll20, but recently getting a new job and having my first Daughter has made me lose any time I had to prep adventures. I like to be very "professional" about my games, and never half-ass anything, so although I could have continued running my games, I didnt want to lower the quality of my content and not be able to run my sessions up to the level of quality I prefer.
I will be starting back up my games via Fantasy Grounds. It is similar to Roll20, but is a 3rd party application (instead of a website) that is much more robust, and a bit more complicated in some areas, and much more simple in others. I feel like it is overall a better experience than roll20, but does have a bit of a learning curve. It is also pretty expensive, but ill be paying for everything, so players will have zero costs.
I decided to start back up my campaign using Fantasy Grounds because they have partnered with Wizards of the Coast and now offer their published adventures premade and setup inside of the application, with tokens, maps, storyboards and everything else needed to run the adventure premade and ready to go. This allows me to keep up the high level of production I strive for when running my games, yet frees me from spending 10+ hours a week in preparation. We will be starting with the latest adventure "Out of the Abyss" and moving on to "Princes of the Apocalypse" afterwards.
I am looking for two additional party members to bring our total to 5. The adventures will be a solid mix of roleplaying and combat, and I am known for making combat challenging and engaging. A strong understanding of 5e mechanics, and the ability to make optimized characters is required. I will be nerfing particular combos that are mathematically overpowered, specifically great weapon master and sharpshooter -5/+10 mods, summon undead cheese and eldrict blast+ quicken cheese. I dont plan on punishing you for being creative, but I also want the game to be balanced, fun and challenging. We will be using NONE of the unearthed arcana splat, and following RAW as close as possible. We will be using stat buys with a 27 point buy as standard in the PHB, but with an additional +2 to any ability score and -2 to any ability score (this is optional, you can also choose +1, -1 as well). We will be starting at level 3.
Anyone familiar with Fantasy Grounds will be given priority, as id like to avoid the learning curve as much as possible. Downloading the trial application yourself from steam and learning all of the core functionality is enough to give you a bump, but someone familiar with using the built-in players hand book modules and other library modules will get an additional bump (there are youtube videos that detail this process that you could watch to gain the second bump).
Currently, the party consists of a Barbarian, Rogue, and Wizard. Filling out the party composition with characters that fit the group is preferred. Id prefer to choose particular players instead of you proposing a specific character, we can whip you up a character once you are allowed into the party. Please dont apply with a very specific character concept in mind, id prefer we work together to make a character that fits with the group.
Please post below if you are interested. Make sure to include how available you are during the week for skype chats (all text). I like to chat and joke throughout the week and would prefer someone that we can have a conversation with between sessions vs someone who only shows up to play. If you only have enough time to log in for the session but have zero access to a computer the rest of the week please do not apply. Please be at least 17, comfortable with mature language and crude humor, able to take a joke at your expense and be able to have a good time. If you are quiet or anti-social, this may not be the game for you. I would prefer players who like to stay in character as much as possible, speak as their character, speak in first person and perform actions in first person as much as possible.
Thanks and have a great day!!
