What I find hard about programming is knowing where to start. So what would be cool is a sub ran monthly project where people can ask for help in what ever language they want to code in, and as everyone would be doing the same project people can help each other or try it in a language they haven't coded in before.

Hm. Ya. Maybe a monthly project and weekly quizzes? That would seem to be most useful to the most people. Thanks for the input!

Also maybe add levels? Beginner do this, Novice add that, Intermediate make it using blank.. ect so people who have experience can join in too.

This. I'm learning pyhton right now and IMHO the challenges part at the end of the chapter is where I feel I learn the most.

Hey everyone,

I'm one of the new mods here and I'm personally in favor of having weekly lessons on the sub. Now deciding what we do for those weekly lessons is going to be very difficult. I like some of the ideas that have been brought up in this thread and will be continuing a conversation about those ideas with @fluffingtonthefifth.

Here's my idea. The current top post of all time on /v/learnprogramming is a link to Harvard's online CS50 course which I took and can say that this is a very good course. The course is broken into weeks. Each week usually has 2 lectures and a few short videos to watch along with a problem set which contains a few programming challenges based on the lectures that week. I propose that we take this course together on a week by week basis following the structure of the course. Who here would be interested in taking Harvard's CS50 course on /v/learnprogramming?

I think that a lesson a week would be good, but I don't know if keeping it up week by week is going to be the issue as much as it is, what is the lesson going to be on? With so many different languages you would have to post a lesson for another language every week which would kind of (in my opinion) defeat some of the purpose due to people wanting to follow along or something. A lesson a week would be nice, but I think that the benefit would really come if it was in one language and maybe the community can vote on what language that will be. Just my 2¢

I'm of the belief learning a simple markup language like Html/css is a huge way to introduce people to programming. It's a small win. But then again I jut finished a html/css course after procrastinating for six years.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. :-( One of biggest challenges right now is procrastinating.

Hi guys, I'm a new mod. I'm hoping to answer lots of questions and also provide any kind of service I can. Please feel free to message me a link to your thread if your question hasn't been answered yet and I'll see if I can answer it. As long as we stay active we can grow this community a lot and hopefully help a lot of people!

You're not a programmer.

Hey! Fellow mod here, let's get all the mods together soon and brainstorm a bit. Wold you be down for that?
