We grew up in Michigan, bounced around Indianapolis and Chicago, moved out to Orange County, CA for a dozen years, landed back in Michigan where we have about 18 acres. It's about 3 acres of lawn with the rest being forest or wetlands. We have a big 3/4 acre pond with a bunch of fish. Wildlife all around every day. My wife wanted to raise chickens. A dozen turned into a couple dozen, turned into...A farm. She built a coop as sturdy as Fort Knox, and I built 4 geodesic domes as indoor runs and wired up some cameras so we can watch the chickens from our house. Then added the live feeds to our farm website so our customers can watch the chickens, too. We've gotten a lot of great feedback on it from our customers & their children. We supply eggs to about 30-some families in our area, where we deliver on a schedule like 2 dozen every Wednesday or 4 dozen every other week or whatever. Farm fresh eggs right to their door.
Is it spamming if I give out our web address? We contracted 3 graphics artists from fiverr and gave them all the same description of what we wanted for our farm. The first one had this big chicken with a sun rising in the background like a Japanese flag, like House Of The Rising Chicken. No thanks. Second graphics artist gave us a couple watercolor chickens with who had round eyes like they were surprised or something. But the third one was good quality stuff and what we selected.
Hmm what else. This year I successfully built a cosmic ray detector out of some dry ice and stuff I bought at a goodwill store. That was a fun project. I'm studying for my ham radio operator license. We found some shagbark hickory trees on our property and learned how to make shagbark hickory syrup, which is really just out of this world good. You just can't believe it, search your property or friends property and make some, you will be happy. I built an aluminum forge and melted some aluminum and that was a cool project.
When we bought our land we had to buy a tractor which was a totally new experience for us. We built a big tractor shed out of wood pallets and my wife made big raised garden beds with pallets too.
Winters can be very cold here and we just got a Woodstock Fireview wood stove installed in our living room. Holy cow it is just a work of art, and we look forward to being able to heat our home using the wood we have on our land.
Politically we were Libertarians turned big Ron Paul supporters for his runs, and also now big Trump supporters. Sorry for any TDS this causes, but we're behind him 100%. I dabble in running online ads for our home business as well as political ads as a form of activism. We are Q-aware. We cut the cable long ago. We listen mainly to Styx, Lionel, some HA Goodman, along with various homesteading channels on youtube. We can't stand the fake news. Holy cow, I can't tell you how much we cant stand it.
Oh I picked up the Uke after years of playing guitar. I've been playing for a couple years now and I really like it. It's an easy instrument to grab, play a couple bars here or there while waiting for software to download or compile. I really like fingerstyle stuff. Look up Jake Shimabukro for example
https://youtu.be/puSkP3uym5k That's one that inspired me to learn Uke, to learn this song. Since then I've learned a bunch of others.
Oh I play online poker a lot. I'm at Global Poker. My bankroll started with $10 + $2 (free from them) = $12. It's now at $75. I play mostly 9 person $0.50 buy in sit and gos. I hope to build to $100 then start playing $3 sit and gos and see what happens. But now since I mentioned it I'm going to bust the next half dozen games, just watch.
I subscribed to many subverses here and look forward to contributing. I didn't read through many other people's introductions but I hope this meets the standard.
