Hello and welcome to Voat!
Don't be a shy! Start making comments in here to earn your needed minimum 10CCP and then start a post to introduce yourself to other Voaters!
Please explore Voat to find subverses that interest you. If you don't find what you are looking for, perhaps you should create it! In addition, if you find a subverse that seems abandoned, you can request to adopt it. If you do create a new sub or adopt one, you can announce it. Once you have a subverse, you may want to add a custom theme for it.
You can disable custom CSS in your account management options to just see the default interface if you choose. Voat also has a Night Mode as yet another option and many users seem to prefer it! In here as well you will be able to add your email for password recovery (Voat will never use or sell this information).
Your Voat experience can be whatever you want to make it, so make the most of it!
Sub Rule: This sub is for making your introduction post as a new user and for welcoming new users in the comments; posts asking for or offering free upvotes is bad form, Off-Topic to the sub, and subject to deletion
Sub Guideline: Wheaton's Law; if someone is rude, ignore or let them know with your vote, mods don't police "politeness"
Contribution Points
You have two kinds of contribution points: Submission Contribution Points (SCP) and Comment Contribution Points (CCP).
- CCP is what allows you to vote on posts/comments and everyone starts with 10 free upvotes per day; the more CCP you get, the more you can vote.
- SCP doesn't do much for now but there are plans for down the road, and you get one free upvote with every post.
Votes are associated with your IP address: you cannot vote on the same post/comment using alternate accounts; only the first vote will be counted.

~PRO TIP 1: A great way to quickly gain CCP is to hang out here and greet other newcomers when they post. You are also helping them, so everyone wins!
~PRO TIP 2: You don't have to keep that password you created during the registration process--click the cog wheel by your name and change it!

Yes! I feel like it puts more value on the actual vote. The posts that people upvoat or downvoat seem to generally be deserving of whichever type of voat they get. At first, it was a bit of a surprise to me how quickly my allotted amount of upvoats were used up. But then it "clicked" and made perfect sense to me.
This system is brilliant and I really like the thought put into it.

Yes, I'm still getting used to not upvoating every post that I like though.

I think it helps to make you actually think about what you actually agree or disagree about. Then, if you really feel that strongly about it, you type out a few sentences expressing that viewpoint.

Same here. And it still feels really weird to me to go into a thread and see that the top comment maybe has a few dozen upvoats. It's a nice change though.

Welcome!
I think it's worked well so far. Proof seems to be how friendly the conversations are.
Welcome aboard!

Thank you! It can be a bit frustrating sometimes since I'm used to voting on mostly everything, one way or another, but I'm still digging it so far.

it will take sometime to get use too, i usually just upvote everything i read

I think its great! except the IKP system is sorta annoying though. It really makes you be conscious about upvoating real good posts. The only step up on voat the unnameable site has is the sheer amount of content it contains. I feel like that will change really soon though. Enjoy and if you have a chance check out my subverse /v/potatohalloffame !

I like the idea, you have to earn your votes, hopefully making corporate jump through hoops will lead to less blatant commercials posted as comments. i'm looking at you broadcast tv and your never ending string of four panels. on uh some other site.

Yeah, I like it. It helps keep the negativity down as well.

I definately think that it's better in some ways. In other ways I've found myself trying to be a CCP whore and I believe it's what's driving the /ALL page to so horrible. People are becoming CCP whores right when they hit the door as a result of it. IMO.

The key is to not give them upvoats. The system only works if people earn those through good contributions. Then, when things die down and people realize that 100 CCP isn't hard to get and they're all happy with their points you'll see less of it.

I certainly like it from an openness stand point
It cuts out a lot of the passive aggressiveness, especially because you can see how often someone downvotes. Means there's some agency in both voting and posting
