The smithing is really fun, but I can't do it in the summer. It's been in the 105 degree range here lately. The chickens are the best thing I've gotten involved in, in a long time. Especially since we got rid of the rooster. They are now sweet and excited to see us. Plus they have all started laying eggs in the last 2-3 weeks, and I've never had farm fresh eggs before, so that's another awesome plus for them.

We have 4 in total. 1 is about a year old, two are just a laying age (21 weeks or so), and one that is probably about a month out from laying. Comparing store bought eggs with the ones my birds have been laying is like comparing rocks to steaks. our eggs are so good, and they actually taste like something, other than the salt and pepper I put on them. The other night I found some chanterelle mushrooms in our back yard and some wild garlic sprigs. I made an omelet that would melt your brain it was so good.
