Hello and welcome to Voat!
Don't be a shy! Start making comments in here to earn your needed minimum 10CCP and then start a post to introduce yourself to other Voaters!
Please explore Voat to find subverses that interest you. If you don't find what you are looking for, perhaps you should create it! In addition, if you find a subverse that seems abandoned, you can request to adopt it. If you do create a new sub or adopt one, you can announce it. Once you have a subverse, you may want to add a custom theme for it.
You can disable custom CSS in your account management options to just see the default interface if you choose. Voat also has a Night Mode as yet another option and many users seem to prefer it! In here as well you will be able to add your email for password recovery (Voat will never use or sell this information).
Your Voat experience can be whatever you want to make it, so make the most of it!
Sub Rule: This sub is for making your introduction post as a new user and for welcoming new users in the comments; posts asking for or offering free upvotes is bad form, Off-Topic to the sub, and subject to deletion
Sub Guideline: Wheaton's Law; if someone is rude, ignore or let them know with your vote, mods don't police "politeness"
Contribution Points
You have two kinds of contribution points: Submission Contribution Points (SCP) and Comment Contribution Points (CCP).
- CCP is what allows you to vote on posts/comments and everyone starts with 10 free upvotes per day; the more CCP you get, the more you can vote.
- SCP doesn't do much for now but there are plans for down the road, and you get one free upvote with every post.
Votes are associated with your IP address: you cannot vote on the same post/comment using alternate accounts; only the first vote will be counted.

~PRO TIP 1: A great way to quickly gain CCP is to hang out here and greet other newcomers when they post. You are also helping them, so everyone wins!
~PRO TIP 2: You don't have to keep that password you created during the registration process--click the cog wheel by your name and change it!

Welcome to a better place :)

They'll probably be up and down until @Atko (our main admin) makes an announcement, but they might be more up than down from here on. Just be warned that the servers might die again if Reddit has another "exodus", as some like to call it.
If you need any help with anything, remember to ask someone. While Voat does seem very similar to Reddit, some features are planned and missing (Message the Moderators comes to mind), but some are available without a Voat version of RES (Night mode FTW! Click the bulb in the top right if you want to switch).

What's the story?

Well, i've always wanted to be a pilot. I made the effort to try and achieve that goal but sometimes that was hard. A mate of mine invited me to a church one night, im not really religious but it was fun i guess. I was pulled up for a prophecy. The guy behind me was blindfolded, i knew him because he was a distant friend of my brother in high school, but he would've known nothing about me (I had no contact with him, and neither did my brother anymore). This guy behind me, who cant see who is in front of him, sits for about a minute in silence just thinking or praying or something. He opens his mouth and says "I think of planes." He starts to go on about flying high "for god" and im just sitting there silently like "how the hell does this guy know i want to be a pilot".
I never believed in prophecy or really anything like that, because anything supernatural just doesnt seem right to me, but that prophecy really stood out. At the end of his talking, he finished with "I also think of the number 270. I dont know why."
So there it is. 270 means something to me, because it reminds me of that night. Not because of the weird "supernatural" thing going on (if the prophecy was legit or not, im not going to debate) but because it sortoff gave me a boost of motivation to do what i want to do and become who i want to be. So yeh. Thats 270.

Welcome to the club comrade! As a survivor or the great 4chan v Tumblr war of 2014, the Digg exodus of 2010, the Triad of evil (4chan, Reddit, and Funny junk vs Dylonthehacker) battle and the current reddit incident of 2015, we welcome you to a new home.

Same thing! I like the fact that I can express things and not get downvoted easily, which was the main reason why I lurked so much on reddit. I hope you have a great stay here!

Yeah, it feels a lot more positive without all the downvotes. It's still kinda early though and all the 0s everywhere from people running out of upvotes is strange, but I'm excited to see it change over the next few days as people get the ability to give more upvotes.
