Now that Voat is finally online, I'm looking around and so far I'm surprised. Because of the /r/fatpeoplehate exodus, I'll admit I was expecting a place full of hate. Seems more like Voat is dedicated to free speech, which is a much more logical way to do things. I don't see what was so difficult about simply avoiding /r/fatpeoplehate if you didn't like its message (it's certainly what I was doing) instead of the shady censorship they've been introducing. What if because I'm an atheist I were to demand the religious subs to be taken down, or vice-versa? You can't have one or the other, you need ALL groups to have a voice.

I'm still a little hesitant so I created a throwaway to browse around for a bit. That stigma of "Voat must be hateful" is still with me, hopefully I'll find enough to enjoy about this new place and can ignore the inevitable vitriol.
