I'm European and I always hated nutella. Way too sweet. I don't understand it. It's totally awful to me. Anything with hazelnut tastes bad to me and I'd rather have peanut butter.

If we're going to get into an argument though Hersheys tastes like puke. I grew up on kinder and the first time I ate Hersheys I thought it went expired. Have no idea how Americans can eat that. It's even worse than nutella by far.

If you're curious why it tastes like puke, there's a chemical and financial reason.

While producing milk chocolate, part of the process is allowing the milk to age. The longer you let it age, the more chocolate you get back from the process, but you also get byproducts from that. Such as Butyric acid. That's the acid that makes puke smell like puke. It's also produced by bacteria as milk sours.

American chocolate is generally cheaper because it costs less to make as the process is set up to allow a longer fermentation, so you make more milk chocolate for less money. The side effect is of course that the chocolate has a puke-y taste. Americans just kinda ignore that though due to learning it as the "norm" I guess.

I personally prefer European chocolate for that reason. It's also healthier, because you need less sugar in the chocolate because you don't need to cover up the puke taste/smell.

I'm a fan of Biscoff Butter Spread. It's called something else in the EU. http://www.biscoff.com/indulge/biscoff-cookie-butter

Costs just as much but tastes way better imo. Less sugar overall, but still a substantial amount of sugar.

It comes from polyglycerol polyricinoleate which is used as an emulsifier and comes from castor beans.

It's cuz we're indoctrinated intro sugary foods as a child to where Nutella tastes normal to us. It's fucked up.

I never had it when I was younger. I tasted it for the first time when I was 26 or something and it was horrible. I can see how people could be indoctrinated on it though. Nutella and squash is probably why brits are often missing teeth.

I'm pretty much anti anything sugar anymore. Makes my throat burn. I bought some kinder chocolate the other day but that's rare for me. Maybe once a year or something. I don't like sweets at all very much.

Yeah, I hate nutella for the exact same reason. Though most peanut butters are overly sweetened, as well.

You know, I went to Turin, Italy where this stuff came from. Had a candy bar there and instantly realized that the shit they send us as Nutella is so much worse than what they eat there.

Italian here: turin is the birthplace of "gianduiotti", a specialty wedge-shaped chocolate candy made with pure chocolate, sugar and a sweet hazelnut that only grows there. Eat it while sipping an espresso coffee and prepare for orgasm.

I'd like to also include that Italian coffee is so good it will make all generic American coffee horrible in comparison if you drink it.

Can confirm. They don't eat the same product as we do, it's adapted to local preferences, italian Nutella is the superior Nutella.

Nutella is basically frosting. In America, they have successfully marketed it to be as healthy as peanut butter, but it's not.

Strangely enough, though, in Paris, you see Nutella at every crepe stand and hotel breakfast, but virtually no Parisians are fat.

Nutella had so much hype, so I decided to try some. It was crude, and I think that was due to the ridiculous amount of sugar. People don't realize they've been desensitized to sugar from an early age, once you cut back on sugar you'll find a lot of modern food sickening sweet.
