Okay, you've got some interesting AH behind this map. The existence of a Vermont suggests a split some time after 1777, but how did New England end up, for one thing, with chunks of Canada and (additional, given Vermont) chunks of New York?

Basically, New England sided with England during the American Revolution. Although the Southern states gained independence, New England was rewarded with territory captured from New York by the British, this became Adirondack. When Canada was given independence, the Atlantic colonies did not want to join because they considered themselves part of New England, so they were given to New England. Also, Vermont's independence was never recognized. It is pretty stupid, but I like the concept.

Okay, I can mostly work with that...though New England seemed to be the hotbed of revolution with the South being more or less wishy-washy on it.
I'd think as a province, though, New England would have just rolled "Vermont" and "Adirondack" together, given the relatively low population of both.
