isn't that what happened at Reddit and the reason Reddit is in shit is because sponsors didn't want to associate with free speech.

Reddit has failed monetization through native advertising and courting the big donors. This is likely being pushed by some of the investors. It's better to grow organically from the ground up, more like a YouTube model. It all depends on Atko, and his unwillingness to compromise the ideals.

Youtube is purely a video channel. So, content creators know well what kind of a medium they are looking at. With Voat, there is no one set of specialty and the wide array of topics brings a very diverse group of audience. For content creators to monetize there should be either a steady income from Voat or a big audience to spread their content.

With the current atmosphere world wide, content creators need to be very careful about where their word is being spread. Once revenue comes into question, there will be all kinds of ethical questions.

i do agree that Voat needs to be sustainable. We can do few things..

  1. Make donations possible - While it may or may not pay for the whole, atleast there will be some income.

  2. Make it subscription only - Downside being you will only have a smaller amount of participation. 2a. Make it subscription for higher privileges - not sure what features we can provide but we can have tiers. Free for all, but if you subscribe you get better tools?

  3. Ads - the big murky topic that is going around everywhere.

This reads like something you'd get out of an MBA degree mill. Not everything has to be fucking monetized, you goddamn cunt.

I just don't see this working out well. Sponsored accounts invariably lead to the site's administration becoming beholden to them as they pay the bills.

Sure, but would you rather that be Coke, or Pewdiepie?

Fuck you! This is one of the last refuges for genuine sharing of ideas and you want to fist-fuck it with monetization. Go back to watching videos on YouTube of inane cockatiels facializing the new Star Wars franchise.

? Voat needs a way to make at least money if it's going to keep existing.

You should expand more on what you mean by:

The ability to monetize properly submitted content on Voat

The same way Youtubers can monetize their channels.
