How many phpBB forums were there in its heyday? Reddit code is open-source--this is at the moment just an alternative community. Much like all those forums, there's room for multiple communities.

If you don't like it, why are you here?

Also a lot of what forums are are DIFFERENT people. Almost everyone here used Reddit whereas on forums you get people that have never browsed anything other than one forum.

You know, one thing this place does have in common with Reddit is the ability to edit comments.

I never said I don't like it. phpBB forums are a special case because it was designed originally for this widespread use of the same design. Reddit is the only popular site with its design making this seem as more of a copy than another community.

I kind of see it like Canada and the US. We have a lot in common, but we're smaller, a little friendlier (but the meanies are meaner), and have that je ne sais quoi that is hard to define but is definitely there. Same goes for Voat and Reddit.

As @moe already pointed out, this site is still in the Alpha stage. A lot of features are being developed at the moment, including a whole new look that you can try out.

Another major selling point is the lack of censorship and the fact that it's based in Switzerland, which has different copyright laws than the USA, meaning it isn't subject to DCMA takedowns (if I remember correctly. The DCMA part is coming from a hazy memory, so please correct me if I'm wrong).

Hi, Do you know if there will be a 'other discussions' tab. I find that a really useful way to find subs on reddit and really miss it here.

I'm really not sure. You'd have to ask the admins about that (@Atko and @zook) , or post in /v/Ideasforvoat if you haven't already.

Luckily Voat is a pretty small site as of now, and it shouldn't be too hard to find similar discussions with a little bit of searching or browsing the new queue.

I get what you're saying, and you're sort of right, but from what I understand, this is about policy and community. It's for users of Reddit that like the interface, but are fed up with the community and the way things are being run. I still use and even enjoy Reddit, as there is some good info and material there, but the enjoyment, and in my opinion the quality, is fading more and more. I'm willing to be here through the development stages because the point seems to be to cut out the unfavorable parts of Reddit.

Yeah and this is why I like the idea! I'll still pay attention to the site and stay kind of active whilst waiting for the partner stuff and more people :)
