It's pretty easy to accumulate CC here. I'm not sure about now after a big influx of Reddit and 8ch users, but many people like to upvoat comments here (something I don't really see on Reddit, in my experience). In fact, I upvoat almost every comment I read unless it's a trolling or spam comment. However, digging through your comment history, it seems that you've made five comments in the past two days without any points, so I understand why you feel this way.

I'd just give it some time.

That's how it should be but as long as there's a 10 point limit until you meet certain criteria you can't do that. I'd like to upvote much more but I'll have to make some circlejerky comments worthy of upvotes so I can get to that point.

I just think think this system discourages engagement rather than the aim which is to encourage it. Meeting requirements to downvote is a nice idea, it gives you something to work for to get a bit of extra power but unrestricted upvotes are necessity to make the site feel dynamic and active.

Actually, the aim of the system is to prevent people from abusing the upvote by creating alternate accounts. Sure, it's not perfect, but it makes it a lot harder, since you have to build up a small reputation of good comments.

I realize that many users are sub-20 CC at the moment, but, a lot of veteran Voat users are still used to how things used to be done (upvoting most comments). It's better now than it used to be (it took me a few weeks to clear 100 CC). For examples of the type of comments I made that increased my overall CC, I suggest you look at my comment history. Otherwise, it just takes time.

how about instead we encourage people to contribute for its own sake and discourage tards who want to be popular above all else which leads to crap.

You might as well get rid of the voting system then but that's the main appeal of these kinds of sites. They're not like a generic forum, users actually decide for themselves what gets prominence.

Maybe try this system out once the site is really going but right now it's in its infancy so in my opinion you should do everything you can to get people engaged. A great way is letting users upvote without limitations.

you make these statements as though they are definitive and empirical. You're wrong.
