I'm opposed to this because even if people browsing my own comment history means they find out that I've said idiotic shit and they want to rake me over the coals for it, sunlight is the best disinfectant that there is.

People are free to see it and comment on it and respond to it and form an opinion of me because of it. I consider that fair, even if their opinion is that they don't like me.

I see your point but have you ever raised the ire of SJWs on reddit? They will literally dissect your post history back YEARS. I had to install tamper monkey and run that delete cmment script on an old account because they were relentless. my crime? speaking out against israel.

I have inflamed my share of SJWs.

I still don't agree with hiding entire comment histories.

While I can understand why you would suggest this, it would be a bad idea. It would also prevent users from calling people out on their bullshit.

Now wait a second, the day before yesterday you claimed to be a middle-aged bearded hipster living the single life and riding across the country on your scooter to raise awareness of the evils of caffeine addiction. Or did that change since then? ;)

At the same time it would prevent others from using their comments out of context. I'm for it.

Why should we be banning users?

essentially this is useless - they commented on a public forum, so there was no expiation of privacy, and all their comments are easily retrievable with a simple google search anyway

That's fine if you want to go to those lengths, but it should be an option for users

you cannot hide something that's already in the public domain - it's pointless and could only cause confusion and potentially a false sense of privacy

the only possible reason that i can think of for someone wanting to do that is if they make a false statement and then get called out on it because their statement is contradicted in their post/comment history, in which case they probably should've been honest in the first place, but again, "hiding" what cannot be hidden is entirely pointless
