Actually, we did. This was not the only one. For all the good any of them were worth.
The one I posted is currently two votes shy of 1,000 with an 88% approval rate, and does not even mention "SJW" or the personal views of any moderator, it only serves to register dissatisfaction with the moderation of that sub.
I'm hoping we can automate this process, so that when a head mod transfer is about to happen, and regularly afterwards (say, every six months or a year) the community's approval is also required for the transfer to go through or the head mod to remain in place.

Generally speaking, that idea has merit, but as with anything like this, the devil will be in the details. It has to be resistant to "gaming".
