I personally think chats might be useful, especially for small subs, to get to know other members better, to have better back-and-forth discussions, to get people more involved in the sub, to give people a great sense of community, etc. It could also be more useful for activist subs to discuss more easily about the actions they want to take.
Perhaps this could be more of a long term goal if its not easy to implement or too early for the site. Of course there are negatives too like it being more chaotic at times, and so I would be interested in hearing what people generally want here, including the details of how they might want it implemented if they approve of it.
I am not sure if people are aware, but reddit also has an irc part to it, i.e. snoonet. So we could even do something like that, and keep it as an irc separate from the site.
Thoughts?

I came here to post something similar, so I upvoted instead. My idea was in the line of "support subs" and people needing help. I think people will naturally gravitate towards some sort of group chat if the community is healthy, but it would be nice to simply jump in straight away.
