Q: Are there any mobile apps? If so, what and where are they?
A: For Android:

For iOS:

All apps are limited by the current state of the Voat API. The mobile site is probably more usable than all of them. A new, more capable Voat API is currently in closed beta testing.

What do you mean voat is under attack?

Link to Play Store for voBrowser is wrong, the correct one is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.lumigo.vobrowser2

You have successfully summoned me, I feel like I should be granting you 3 wishes or something. Anyway, if anybody has any questions for me, just send me a PM or hop over to v/vulcan and I'll do my best to answer them.

Small clarification: Capra's not limited by the existing API because it isn't using it. The new API exists in part because I asked for it, so Capra targets the new API exclusively. The implication of this is that I won't be able to release Capra generally until the new API comes out of alpha and is implemented on the main voat database.

voting shouldn't be up or down

More commonly I've seen that voting shouldn't just be up or down. Keep the upvotes/downvotes, and in addition to that add something to indicate disagreement. +/-, left/right, [A]/[D], etc. But still keep the upvoats/downvoats and use those to sort content

I'd like to <3 posts so the user knows I like their idea without a useless response like "lol" Then they see "eliminatorboatduel, someuser and other_guy <3 this post" and it automatically upvoats too. :3 ❤ I guess it works in smaller subverses where people make a name for them self. Or maybe that shit is totally gay.

I honestly might leave if there's anything more than up/down.

I'm here for converse with my fellow humans.

Reading a comment with no replies and seeing that n>~5 people simply disagree would be the most frustrating experience I've ever had with an online community.

What does that even mean? Do they all disagree for religious reasons? Maybe they're from different cultures, don't like OP, felt OP was close but actually missed the point.

Imagine a conversation where someone's sole contribution is "I disagree." That's it. No reasoning and no offering of a better alternative.

I really couldn't care less about a person disagreeing. All I want to know is why they disagree, and a button won't do that.

I really like this idea, keeping upvote/downvote as the main way to sort content, make them the most prominent. I worry that adding too many options would look crowded and cause 'analysis paralysis'. What about this: imagine a circle in between the up and down arrows. If you click on the circle, you get a bunch more detailed tags to select. If enough people choose the same tags, the comment gets tagged for all users to see. It would be a little bit like slashdot (Off-topic, funny, interesting, disagree, misleading, etc). That way, up and down are all about visibility, because people have a different way of expressing disagreement, but the user interface doesn't become too clunky.

What do people think? What tags would you like to be able to choose from?

What about something you can click to say you neither up nor downvote, but just to tag the comment or link as something you've seen?

I don't think we need a 2 dimensional system, we could keep it one dimensional, but categorize the ups and downs.

+1 this! (agreement)

+1 funny (humorous)

+1 inciteful

-1 nope (disagreement)

-1 spam

-1 troll

bonus: we could sort by category

a.k.a. slashdot.org. I think voting system and ability to boost topics interesting to you or from people you like (friends) is a nice one there.

I am 100% convinced that the only way to do this is to have only an agree/like/positive feedback button and a disagree/dislike/negative feedback button.

No matter how you slice it enough people are going to use the options that impact visibility of the post the most in either direction as their agree or disagree option that it fucks it all up to try and intend them to be anything else.

Idea: Hire Victoria Taylor
Status: Not officially planned. Salaries cost money, and crowdfunding does not provide a steady form of income. Victoria has been approached by many, many different organizations.

Could we have a option just to hide individual post? There have been posts that I don't like and don't go against any rules/etc.

This is now a feature.

I've given this some thought, and my best ideas so far are:

  • Hover over a subverse to pop up a menu which contains "block" as an item.
  • Right click on a subverse to pop up a menu which contains "block" as an item.
  • This can (and should) be done in addition to the above, (or it can be done seperately,) a page under your profile which shows blocked subverses, allowing you to unblock them, and also allowing you to manually enter a subverse in order to block it.

Never-ending Voat. The option to continuously scroll instead of paging.

Check out AVE. It's already got that feature as well as many others. Would be nice to see it built-in to the site, though.
