Coinhive can be set up to allow for opting out or you can just block it entirely.

Monero has dropped a lot in difficulty, 50% so far and declining. Difficulty is auto adjusted over last 720 blocks, so it will most likely keep on reducing even further. ~75% of hashing power gone after change, meaning bitmain et al probably mined monero with Asics for quite some time.

On the subject of CPU mining in browser, if its voluntary then sure - but I'd rather donate.

It is actually ~2.5x more profitable now than when I first started with it.
