Is a bot-checker like a captcha test or something?

Ideally a verification method without ties to google though.

Captcha is run by them, and is used to train identification algorithms.

Yeah, or if another method comes about.

Good ideas, but I suspect implementation would be the problem, as we only have one Admin with the rights to do this and he's generally tied up with other things. But maybe a bot could do this ... who knows.

A simple algorithm, store links that have been posted for the day (in link, or discussions). If specific link goes above 2 then any poster trying to push it (weather in comment, link, or discussion) is faced with a bot checker. In any event this would severely reduce recycled content.

Even simpler someone is reported as a spammer. If someone is reported as a spammer, just send a captcha test thingy before they can continue.

Note: There are third party bot tests not run by Google.

While a great idea in theory, I'm afraid the shills and the shit posting brigade would go after anybody and everybody. I like the idea though. What if there was a way to do a bot check once the same link has been posted 3 or more times? That still allows us to cross post something.

Links are already being checked.

It can't check for a link to a different source but of the same content. Lots of people repost the same content and should be called out.

Okay, if the spam button has cued the bot checker, the checker won't run again for a month on the submitter?

So, as a spammer. I just have another account report myself as spam. I then run the test, and my account is ready to spam for a month strait. Cool.

I had a similar idea a few weeks ago. A list of Turing questions.

What about people who run bots that have a ccp of 10? Obviously they occasionally check in to protest that they're AI only.

I can see how this could be a problem for @derram and his linked images. I've forgotten her name. Ginger or Jenna or...?

We canadd a whitelist for authorized bots such as @derram and @voatsearch

Links are already being checked.

Try it.

This would get really annoying after those SRS types abuse it.

Edit: Perhaps if it let you know WHO reported you so that there is the potential of recourse.

bot-checker could be a forced subverse for links that have been posted 3 times within an hour, regardless of which subverses the poster or bot tries to put it for the fourth and subsequent submittals
