We had a donation bar a while ago. It was discarded due to its perpetual inaccuracy due to the fact that it had to be manually managed.

Odd that I never saw it, despite literally being on here every day.

I was thinking of just this, with receipts to show exactly what the money is spent on.

That kind of transparency would very likely result in huge donations, i think many are very reluctant to put money in to something where they dont know where its going.

Super idea! @puttitout ... would greatly encourage donations from the goats.

Yep, but not only that, it also reinforces the idea that we are all stakeholders in this place.

Even Reddit still has a "daily Reddit gold goal" and it has more than enough money to go around.

So make it $7000. There has to be a pad included for growth.

Or have a few different gradations on the ticker. Like a "we're not shutting down" mark, a "we met our target" mark and "room for growth," mark. Or something like that.

Excellent idea. Green gradations, yellow gradations and orange gradations (Hail the God Emperor).

Fair enough, but why couldn't Putt add a wage to the monthly target? I think it is fair that he is compensated for his work here... and if he gets carried away, well he won't reach his target. Think about it as Capitalism in it's rawest form.

I prefer my capitalism medium rare.

Agreed - right now this is a very principled service with real-world consequences. Putt absolutely should be compensated for his contribution. Who's to say he isn't already courting a personal financial crisis? You honestly believe we'd all be told that he had to make yet another sacrifice to keep us afloat? I'm all for the ticker, the monthly donations, whatever it takes to keep this ship, and Putt, sailing as we all should be.

I say the exact same thing every time this happens. How hard is it to add a donation ticker? Not hard. Every small site that runs on donations has one, yet we get no transparency. The amount of money raised via donations and t-shirt sales has never been divulged. For all we knew, the site had raised enough money to last out the year.

I want to donate again, but I am waiting to see what the game plan is to provide the site with some stability. If the site is going to run on donations, it is only fair that the operating costs be disclosed and that the site techies who want to volunteer be able to reduce costs where possible.
