I got to thinking the other night about how things ought to be done on a site where users voting up and down content determines what everyone sees and I had an idea I'd like to share. Inevitably as this site grows there will likely be some issues that we as an internet community will need to solve. Atko, as good of a leader as s/he may be so far, should not have to deal with the pressure of making decisions that could potentially piss off the internet. In the real world, many civilizations have solved this by doing some form of democracy, but unfortunately in the real world we usually have to settle with some form of representative democracy due to having every citizen vote on every issue is not a viable system of government. Here on the internet, however, we should be able to pull off the ideal form of decision making where everybody gets a chance to Voat (...sorry, vote) on anything and everything that may come up.
So what I propose is this; have a subverse (/v/voatingbooth or whatever) where should issues arise, we schedule a poll with perhaps a 24 hour window and when the poll closes, we do whatever the poll determines that the majority would like to do.
I don't know if this has ever been tried before but what do you all think?

I don't know if it was you who I told this already but, who will defend the minority? They will always lose to the majority. For example, the US is approximately 70% overweight, what if we voted on HAES? You don't want this to be another social justice website do you?

Are you referring to the idea HAES or what? People are going to hold their own opinions but I was thinking about voting on site wide changes such as anything that gains traction on IFV.
