Yes, the down votes system is abused here, there's no question of that. And just saying this will get me more automatic down votes ... which is why many simply won't reply to this, save those who think otherwise. As an example, yesterday, when Puttitout informed us of possible weekend outages, I commented something to the effect, 'thanks guys, keep up the good work' and of course, someone down voted that - LOL. Just goes to show it's not the content, but the user someone dislikes, or whatever. Unless the point is to drive folks away from Voat, who knows. All I know for sure is I see more and more actually good, solid contributors to Voat deciding to leave, due to such nonsense in many cases. It's sad, when the system is designed to downgrade spam ... not as a way of attacking others anonymously. But as long as it is anonymous, this will continue, because as you said, those who do this, almost never leave a comment, that would leave them open to debate, something they shrink from. Let the down votes begin ... you do nothing to me, it's simply an irritant which degrades Voat itself.

There is always that one downvoat! 100 upvoats and 1 downvoat. It's mobile users downvoating accidentally, I've done it myself by mistake. The thing is, highlighting who downvoated your submission, will just lead to users downvoating users who downvoated them. It won't end well.. If you submit content to voat, you need to accept downvoats I guess. They are only magic internet points anyway.. I do take your points though, I just don't see away around it, unless you do away with downvoats all together, which I think would be highly contentious at best.

I can't argue with your logic, and like you, I take nothing away from it myself. I do see it though, being someone who posts a lot. For an hour or so, someone will down vote absolutely everything you post, just for grins. To me it's just juvenile, and I could care less, it really doesn't effect my life. The sad part is that often, others are so irritated by it that they simply choose to leave Voat. We've seen that a lot of late, and it's not a good thing. In the end though, you are correct, it matters NOT, and there's little if anything that can be done about it with the system in place. I just see it as something that hurts Voat in the long run, so that part bothers me.

I understand there are accidental downvoats. I would love for a way to view downvoats so I may correct accidental ones. Being called out on them would help me as well. It may even spark discussion. Or the user can just ignore being called out and continue on with their rampant downvoating.

Exactly.. That is why I put my SCP/CCP on the line to try and bring a problem to light that will continue to grow now that we are going to have a public release that brings in more new users ready and willing to continue the abuse of the system.

You're better off them I am, and it's not like these internet points actually matter anyways. Based on submissions of late, the highest either up/downvoat will go is +200-300 or (-200) - (-300). Which isn't enough to prevent me from posting content.

The majority of users brigading don't really know their way around the internet as seen on Reddit.

There will of course be people who are willing to go the lengths of hiding themselves, but those people already exist and are already doing so. If we are able to stop it from continuing further, is that not a better option than just letting it happen now?

Up and down voters should only be able to be viewed by the Admin of the sub they created. So like if you see a user with 50 down votes and only like 5 to 10 up votes you could ban them from your sub. This would help weed out the down vote trolls if they get banned from like 5 to 10 subs for down voting to much they would go else where with their lame trolling.

Like every submission, I'd love to hear opinions on the matter. Downvoating without even commenting does nothing for an actual conversation. It gives no reason as to why it's a bad idea or why you think it shouldn't exist.

Thanks anyways though.

I find it funny that this, out of every submission I have ever made, is my "lowest rated submission" Thank you submission trolls.

I don't think it's the "submission trolls", but more the fact that this very suggestion has been posted in v/IdeasForVoat several times in the past, and each time, it gets mightily downvoted. Voting, up or down, is a pretty private matter, like voting in an election, and is one of the last bastions of real true privacy. I can tell you that many would leave Voat or any other site that uses this ranking method without so much as a "goodbye and kiss my ass" if voting records were suddenly made public. Is there a problem with downvote fairies? Sure, and it's unfortunate, but a few bad apples isn't enough to mandate a change this drastic.
