I was wrong about voat not being tuned to grow quick enough.
I was overenthusiastic and annoyed because my account bugged and got stuck at 10 voats per 24 hours. It is fixed now and I should have over 100 voats per 24 hours.
When the system works it is great. It prevents sockpuppet accounts from warping the site much, the no downvoat rule is best for new accounts.
If we grow too fast with all of the MRA subs or all of TiA subs users coming here from Reddit tomorrow - they are big enough that at this point they would define "what is voat" and vastly outnumber everything else.
The best thing for the site would be steady growth in variety to go along with steady growth in users and content. If we suddenly get all of the MRA subs from reddit - the 200,000 new people would overwhelm everything. I have nothing against MRA and am not singling them out because of content. Just thinking who may about to be banned forever from Reddit.
If something like a bum rush of new members that is 500% of the current population happens suddenly, should we flip a switch to limit sign-ups to 1,000-5,000 a day, first come first serve, and then give every established member a new invite to give away every twenty-four hours also?
