It occurred to me I hadn't watched these films in a while. I rewatched Freddy's Dead, New Nightmare, and the one that came out in 2010. All three are very different films, it was interesting to see how Freddy's Dead had aged. It was the last "true" Freddy movie that followed the formula.
New Nightmare took it in a whole different direction, existing in the same universe as us. The characters in the film were actors from the old movies leading their real lives. Facing off against the real Freddy Krueger. This was technically a much better movie but it might have been to do just with budget. It had a "Scream" feel to it, where most of the movie was a nod to horror fans.
The 2010 remake was really great. There isn't a lot to be said about it other than it more or less retells the story from the beginning with new characters, and it's going to age well. The cinematography was tight, the scenes were all filmed competently, the makeup work and special effects all fit together really well.
I recommend the most recent one, and I'm finding myself disappointed there aren't more.
