It's a moderated sub. They don't allow memes. They don't allow politics outside of the politics thread. It makes for a smooth running sub with decent content but it rubs some people the wrong way. As a result r/guns is quite popular and /r/firearms is a relief valve for the people who dislike moderation. The irony is that r/guns has a mod team and actually kicked Zaptal47 off the team for being abusive to users. /r/firearms has one guy at the top who has had several of his own scandals including manipulating his own vote on adding other moderators or preserving the status quo.

Disdain for the members of the community, they think only what they want should be allowed and not what the community wants, bans for simply disagreeing with them, etc.
