In reality, these toys are very difficult to operate. That backpack is the fuel and control hub, the operator holds the throttle(s) in one of his hands. That "rifle" he has in his other hand is most probably a foam or balsa wood mock-up. Balance is hard enough to maintain on one of those jet boards without putting an eight pound weight for the operator to try to swing around to keep from turning upside down.

Here's a thought:

These jet boards take time to run up (~3-5mins). They're noisy. They dominate the attention of the person operating it and also anyone within earshot of it. They're just powerful enough to move a 160 lbs man and little else (soldier and kit 160 +60 = 220 lbs). With such limited utility and the requirement for a lot of training, plus the high risk of injury/death, I just can't see ANY military around the world taking on this contraption for any use but to be a recruiting tool.
