Odds on you have fee-fee hipsters in their marketing department and thought this was a good call based on their twatter feeds. It's a guess but another I'd put money on is them not knowing who their customer was. I did that job elsewhere for many years and it gets harder & harder as you grow nationally. You have to develop regional knowledge for every one you serve before you roll out national initiatives. If you rely only on the markets you know you end up screwing the pooch somewhere.

That is why you hire people to be tied to an area and then you listen to them, if they try to be yes men you fire them and get someone in that will tell you the truth. Why do you have to roll out changes nation wide? why not roll out based on regions and do what is best to bring in money for that area. Hell the place I buy my guns is a farm store, when asked why they have such low prices it is because their customers want guns so they sell them but they are not a gun store so it just needs to cover the department as such the margins they run are lower.

Exactly right, boots on the ground. We did that with regional trainer in every territory.
