Disregarding morals were their prices even any good on guns? the nearest one to me was across a state boarder so never looked as the rules for buying out of state are more restrictive, and there was one store nearby that tended to have very good prices.

My experience is one store but I used to shop there. Never bought a gun, ammo a couple times when they had .22 and no one else did, bikes for my kids, and a lot of outdoor gear over the years. Prices on ammo were on par with Bass Pro Shop (above Walmart) but only common calibers and 1-2 loadings in those. Guns were comparable in price to BPS but selection not great. It was also to tough to get anyone over to help you. Contrast to BPS and there are always 2-3 hovering around the gun area.

From a straight business standpoint I'd bet guns just underperformed in some stores. I'm in a blue state so no big surprise there. It makes sense to clear out floorspace of poor sellers. Have not seen a list of which stores are ditching guns but won't surprise me if it is in areas like mine. So my bet is that the CEO and his marketing geniuses saw a twofer in this decision. Anti-gun virtue signal on why they were dumping guns (which is clearly a lie since it isn't uniform across all stores) then replace that category with something else. And it is biting them in the ass bigly. Good.

All good info and good logic on why those stores. though the virtue signaling seems dumb from a marketing stand point as it is just going to piss off customers at other stores and see their sales drop. This is especially true if their prices are comparable not better then other stores of their type as customers have choices and anywhere that is big enough for a Dick's also has competition. I really don't get how people can fail to look into the future, it is like they are in a bubble and can't see out past the edge of it plus don't even try to guess what will be past that. It is just stupid from a business standpoint.
