I use a 200 yard zero for iron sights and red dot, the reason is that if l aim center mass at an 8 inch target from 0-225 (or so) yards, if I do everything correctly, it should be a hit. Everything farther should be only hold overs. (200's pair is approximately 50 with .223, and my range has a 200 yard lane) It is also hard to accurately judge distance so expecting just to hold center mass makes sense to me.

I know some other people also use a 50/200 zero but I'm not sure how common it is, but the logic is sound and it definitely works for 8 inch targets. (A man's chest or the boiler room of a deer)
