Well done on defending himself and having a weapon ready. but it seems like an ak-47 is a bit excessive to keep around loaded as a home defense weapon in a neighbor hood where the driveways are wider then the gap between houses and 1 block from a school. I admit I don't know the ballistics for 7.62x39 but isn't over-penetration a concern if you miss, will it stop in 1 person or keep going?

Assuming he is using an ak of a standard 762 variant then he is only throwing out 8-10g at 700mps at 2000j. Thats just as weak as 556 nato. Useless really. Be worried about your grandfathers mosin nagant in 763x54r That shit is a lazer. It makes holes and gives no fucks. Theres scarier shit out there too.

7.62x39 is on the weak side of being suitable for deer hunting.

That said, the answer to your question depends entirely on the type of bullet being used.

A 7.62x39 round will yaw once hitting the body, turning sideways, and starting to spin. Even the least sophisticated round will lose most of its energy inside the target. If any part of the round came out the other side, it would be far less dangerous.

It's the same as how police use intermediate cartridges in their patrol rifles.

7.62X39, 123grain jacketed, steel core (standard surplus ammo) will travel through your entire neighbourhood.

edit - what's up with the down voats? You think I'm wrong?

You can't even buy steel core surplus, It's all banned from import, as far as I know.

Thank you Bush, Clinton, Bush II and Obama.
