I do wish she'd spend more time learning the theory more than the answers. But, there's ample time for that. She's doing fine. Right now, it's mostly rote memorization of certain scales and licks that go with certain keys and what chords will harmonize with them.

She has much left to learn. She says, "Told you. I'm going to be a legend."

It's understandable she wants to rock. I agree, the theory is what holds her future progress but doesn't a little of performing songs help with relating to the theory when she buckles down and concentrates on that? It's a long time to spring and with taking Jan off, she'll have time to get serious on that.

I will try to describe it.

Right now, she's getting really good at paint-by-number. Those are all just parts of scales that go together with chords she knows. But, you can hear that she's expressing something of her own. It's quite impressive and shows serious dedication to memorization. If you give her a minute, she'll look at a chord and tell you the notes played in it, without using paper or pen.

So, the theory will come in time.

Right now, she wants to persue the bitchin' solo and crunky. I can't really blame her.

She's still learning to draw. That's more important, in the end. It means she'll have more tools available to make the music sound like what she hears in her head.

She will be like many of us, perhaps. Always chasing sound.

But, she really doesn't truly understand the why they go together.

And that's okay.

It really is.
