I was pretty broke back then. I'm not sure I'd have done it for free!

You do it for free now at home, so there

True, but I was soooo poor back then. I spent all my money on surviving and guitar gear.
I've done gigs for $50 and the door. The door was like three people. I've played in bars where maybe three people actually listened. The rest were old people nursing their beers.
It hasn't always been glamor and glitz. It has been two of us with tiny amps and an unamplified drummer. I've played from the back of a heavy equipment trailer at parties, for like $100 (plus booze and drugs). I've been stiffed. I've been canceled on at the last minute. I've eaten ramen noodles. I've scrounged up change to buy gas to make it to a show.
That's really the life of many working musicians. We will load $10000 worth of gear into a $500 car and drive 200 miles to make $100.
