Hey everyone!

Thanks for being so kind in understanding that some of us have to work around here… lol

I played around on the piano today and I am very happy to inform @cynicaloldfart that I managed to lighten up his music and kind off rewrite it. You can see this HERE

As you can see this wonderful goat looks out for me and encourages me in my music, thanks /u/Rotteuxx ;)

Secondly, I picked up Dream a little Dream It’s full of errors and I had very little time to mess about with it. It definitely could be louder and better, I am sorry it isn’t.

Then for the v/SBBH club I had to play with this song today, it’s great the kids get all ninja and play fight every time I play it. Fun times and I love you guys at v/SBBH !!!

You guys rawk so hard that everyone hates your guts, good job!

Bonus hidden track, autists only!!! CLICK HERE-> TMNT

You are such a star, I love it that you are enjoying my music. I will still speak to you about recording and stuff but at the moment I am having to deal with some electrical issues on my truck at the moment, so any free time I get I am trying to learn and troubleshoot a rigged electrical system. Aaargh I am not giving up but it it’s testing all right! :)

I, and my family, are so blessed to have this. I can't express the gratitude. Would it be possible to get a "head-on" shot of this so I can mount it alongside the original plate? It would enhance the heirloom quality as my children have already spoken of retaining this for future generations. And of course I will credit this on the back to you. We all should revel in the history of our families and this speaks to us from across more than a century. Again, Thank You So Much!!!!!

Here it is: https://imgoat.com/uploads/98d51a19d8/110529.jpeg

Also I am practicing it and hope to play it for you, me writting it is not finalized as I work through the music I am editing as I get to know the piece better I notice the errors. So please don’t frame this just yet as there may be changes. It was very hard to see clearly and some notes may need to be changed.

This is from 1995. I had this whole story pop in my head when this song came to me. You can read the story below while you listen: https://vocaroo.com/i/s0VtwgNg7YUR

This man and his wife have a terrible argument and he snaps into a rage and strangles the life out of her in the floor. He did love her. She was all he had in this world. He didn't mean it. His heart is broken.

He sits in the kitchen floor beside her body, crying. He screams LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!!!!!

He makes his way to their bedroom and collapses in the floor near her make-up table. He grabs a bottle of her perfume, stands up and staggers slowly through the house smelling it. It reminds him of her. Those beautiful flowers. His sadness is like none ever known.

Neighbors hear the ruckus and call the police. He barricades himself in. The phone starts ringing. Its the cops. He screams into the phone OH GOD IM SORRY NOOOOO! They ask him to come out peacefully. He just easily hangs the phone up. He makes his way to his gun cabinet and gets his shotgun. He loads it with one shell. The red and blue lights are beaming in through the curtains. Its a hot summer evening. News crews gather outside in the street and are broadcasting live. Its become a national story.

He goes back into the kitchen and sits in the floor beside her and smells her perfume that he still carries in his hand. He hears the cops on a loud speaker telling him to come out now or they're coming in. He hears a helicopter come in and start circling the house. He tells his wife that he loves her and that he's sorry as tears roll down his face....then he sits the shotgun under his chin.......he takes one last sniff of her beautiful perfume......he pulls the trigger. Neighbors hear the BANG! and are crying and telling the news reporter lady, who just jumped when she heard the shot, how they cant believe this and how they were always so happy and friendly and well-liked in the community.

The name of this song is Stand-Off

This is great, really my favorite so far. Soooooo talented, so full of passion and emotion. Wreckless in abandon but perfect in completion and layout and wonderful to listen to. Like a journey of life.

What a privilege to be here with you SUPERSTARS!! Seriously I am humbled and so grateful!

So much 80s!

I like it. It makes me think of "arena rock" (for wont of a better term). I'm also a huge fan of bitchin' solos and there's a bunch in that one. In the end of one, just about the 3:00 mark, it reaches a beautiful series of runs that I like - they flow together nicely. You've either got a good ear or you're very familiar with music theory.

I wasn't sure what was going on at about 4:20, but I enjoyed it. It kicked into overdrive not long after and that's making more sense, with the story behind it.

It started dark and ended dark. Hmm... I like it though I think I've said this before, it'd be interesting to have some lyrics telling that story.

You've been here long enough and submitted a great bunch of content that shows you're skilled - so I don't pull too many punches when offering you a response. ;-)

I liked it - I really did. I'd love to hear some words to it and you've got soooooooooooo much 80s music on the brain! You and your Van Halen. I can hear some Van Halen influence in there. It could also be something from Poison crammed in there - maybe a touch of some late-stage Ozzy (late 80s, early 90s) and even a slice of Aerosmith. As I listen again, I'm kind of digging the overall tone and I think I'll like the bit at about 4:20 more this time.

(There's fewer comments so I'm able to take more time to listen.)

And, yeah... I like it. Needs some damned words, 'booger! One of these days, we're gonna get you singing for us AND we're gonna get you jammin' on a banjo.

So much 80s!

Isn't that the truth! I live in the 80's still today.

like it.

That's pretty heavy coming from you, man. Thank you for the compliment.

I wasn't sure what was going on at about 4:20

The sounds of Satan or hell. It awaits him.

You've been here long enough and submitted a great bunch of content that shows you're skilled - so I don't pull too many punches when offering you a response. ;-)

I appreciate that. I can handle honest critique, even when its bad. I don't take myself too seriously.

you've got soooooooooooo much 80s music on the brain! You and your Van Halen. I can hear some Van Halen influence in there. It could also be something from Poison crammed in there - maybe a touch of some late-stage Ozzy (late 80s, early 90s) and even a slice of Aerosmith

All of those influences except Poison, definitely. Van Halen was definitely a big influence on me. I live in the 80's, and that isn't really healthy from a psychological standpoint. Most of what I listen to while driving is 80's. I cant let go.

One of these days, we're gonna get you singing for us

I have a bunch of me singing but I cant sing that great. I really cant. I'm a back-up singer. I have a version of Godziolla that I've been thinking about sharing here with me singing. I had terrible allergies going on at the time and you can tell. Its a parody called Potzilla. lol

AND we're gonna get you jammin' on a banjo.

haha I doubt it but we'll see.

Thanks for your kind comment, man. This sub is awesome and very important to Voat. Its an honor to share here amongst all of the other great musicans, especially you. You are straight-up pro all the way and it shows time & again.

A quick march medley on bagpipe, consisting of the tunes Will Ye No Come Back Again, Bonnie Galloway, Blue Bells of Scotland, High Road To Gairloch, and The Brown Haired Maiden.

I apologize for the tuning. I'm not experienced enough to really tune myself well yet, and it changes a lot from day to day. Another big part of it is that the tone is very sensitive to pressure and I'm not good at keeping my pressure steady yet. Needs more practice :P

Yeah, they're fun! I find out about them when they played a local celtic festival, it was a really cool show with fire and flag twirling and rock. They probably helped push me into learning to play.

I don't know, I think most bands that use bagpipes use electronic pipes, which probably makes that a lot simpler. Regular bagpipes are already pretty loud, too, I've heard there somewhere around 110db.

By request - sort of...

This is an older recording and was done on a very special guitar. You've maybe heard this guitar a few times. It's not the best guitar in my collection. It's not the fanciest. It's not the oldest. It's not the newest. It is my favorite.

This guitar is a Yamaha GC (Grand Concert) that was purchased for me by my parents back in 1968. I got it for my birthday which is on 12/30, so I always say I started to play guitar in 1969, as that's much easier than explaining the details.

This is a lovely, storied guitar. I've had it for many years and it was the very first guitar I owned. The neck is a bit worn thin, the frets are worn. Fingernail impressions mark the fretboard, having worn pretty much through in some locations. It doesn't hold a tune as well as it once did and the intonation is out ever so slightly.

This is my favorite guitar. This is also Bach, it's a piece from the 2nd Sonnata. This is a lovely guitar that has served me well for many years. It has never failed me in giving me back what I put into it. The recording isn't as nice as I'd like, but I was still fairly new to recording then.

https://instaud.io/28r0

(This is definitely not a turn it up, headbang, and throw horns type of song - but you can. I won't stop you.)

I'll be interested to see if others appreciate true art and talent as much as I did. Both you and Bach.

I'm glad you liked it. I don't believe I've shared that one with Voat before,

I love that guitar, a great deal. It has been there through so many things. It has always given me everything back that I've put into it - and more. It was that guitar that I learned on. It's got a history.

[–] nigger_plz 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

It ain't no Kanye West but it's pretty fucking good.

Man don't you wish more classical guys like Bach had composed for the guitar (lute). I think of the heavyweight classical composers only Bach composed for guitar. There's a lot of transposed stuff by those heavyweights but it's not guitar friendly, therefore it's hard to keep a steady flow of the song.

Fur Elise for guitar, fuck that. Prelude in C by Bach written for piano and transposed for guitar, fuck that. There are several piano songs transposed and they are so hard to play. The Entertainer for guitar, fuck that. It would have been great to have more classical guys who knew the fretboard and had composed tailored toward guitar so regular Joes can play the pieces without having to do all these fucked up, crooked chords that connect to the next fucked up crooked chord.

The lute was a 7 string instrument that is essentially the same thing as the modern Oud. Interesting instrument. I met a dude here on the Isle of Eccentric Hippies that actually played a pretty mean oud.

My sentiments exactly!

I told her she should quit her job and we had a discussion about farming and blueberries. It wasn't productive, but I do enjoy our conversations a great deal.

The best I could realistically offer would be working as a sandwich artist or making the coffee that America runs on. I've got some financial interest in a few franchise locations and they're always looking for help. So, I can get her a job there!

Like always, I'll get you started.

I did not have any blocks of free time this week. None. That kind of sucked - but it's for a good reason. Tomorrow is our first gig! I'm pretty excited about this and we're definitely tight. We're ready to go and this means we're going to be rocking Maine like it's never been rocked before.

I'm kind of hoping they can hear us all the way over in Texas, but I have my doubts.

So, you get this... I haven't shared this in a while and uploaded it to share with someone else just the other day.

https://instaud.io/26oi

That'd be Ozzy and the song would be Crazy Train. Go ahead and crank it up!

0

[–] TheBuddha [S] 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

I might be, though I'm not sure I'll do so in the public thread.

There are two concerns. The first is that, after discussion, the band wants absolutely zero affiliation with Voat and would prefer if they remained anonymous on the site - as in, they don't want me sharing video and they're a bit iffy with audio. I've agreed to not publicly share video and we're still pondering what to do with audio.

The second is copyright. If were were doing them in our own style, then that wouldn't be a major issue. However, the work is close enough to be mistaken for the original by a layman and that puts us at a crossroads. They'd quite clearly be in violation of copyright and I have absolutely no legal right to share them.

But... I'm not too worried about copyright.

So the answer is possibly, probably, and maybe limited to sharing privately via PM with those interested in hearing us. We'll be mic'ing the crowd up and recording straight from the soundboard tomorrow. We go on at 18:00 and we were going to do just one set and an encore, but we've been given permission to "play as long as you want." So, we're going to do two sets and an encore.

It's going to be a little chilly - but it's going to be warm enough and the rain should hold off.

We're gonna make some fuckin' noise! ;-)

0

[–] TheBuddha [S] 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Glad you enjoyed it. Most of my professional work was in cover bands and most of those were mid to high level cover bands.

So, my art is in trying to make faithful reproductions. A careful ear, or a few minutes learning to use Audacity, will show you that I'm usually pretty close but not able to make them exact matches. Still, I try to get things to sound as close to the original as I can. That's my art. That's my passion.

I'm doing my first professional gig in over a decade. Tomorrow kicks off my new band's start. I enjoy the work that goes into it. The original artist had the luxury of a studio and many takes. They often couldn't play their stuff live as well as they played it in the studio. I go on stage and reproduce their studio sound in a live environment and do the same thing for multiple artists with different sounds.

It's that complexity that I really appreciate. It's that difficulty that keeps me mentally engaged. I love the performing. I love the crowds. But, I think I'd not like it as much if it didn't have that level of complexity.

It's not easy and I strive for professionalism. I also have a shitload of fun, don't get me wrong.

I like to tell people that I'm not talented. Talented to me means some sort of innate ability. I don't have that. As I was mentioning in another comment, I don't have a musical ear. What I do have is a drive to learn. What you're hearing is nearly 50 years of near-daily practice. I play about four hours per day, currently.

I practice a lot... Y'all don't hear what doesn't make it out of my studio.

Ah well... It was my primary income for a while and then my secondary income. After I didn't really need the money, I just kept playing. I guess it was a love for the job. I love the audiences. I love it when they bodies all wiggle in time. I love the way a large crowd can be so loud that they make the air move around you and even feel small vibrations up through the stage. I've played for some pretty big audiences.

Do you play?

We've mulled this one over in the past and I'm in agreement. I think he'd have gone a different direction and maybe ended up doing something on his own. He was a truly brilliant guitarist and is on my list of guitarists to put on my list and write about.

Everybody that commented on my song last night gets a bonus song tonight, cause I was too busy giving it to her so i'm giving this to everybody tonight. You get a free styling jam where i was just a plucking some chords and chris was making up lyrics. It's not terrible like the one I sharesd with the buddha, I even think chris's girlfriend picked up the mic there. We were enjoying the vodka just songing

I don't know what the hell was going on either. But there it is. I know you're busy rocking the place tonight, but just cause you commented on my song you get a bonus track to listen to at your liesure. Its a grateful dead song, and I know you always enjoy those. Well here's one that you just might not enjoy, It is alcohol infused to the extreme. Christopher playing a couple tracks of guitar and doing the vocals as hes playing, double dipping on both. and theres drunk as hell me on the bass once and the drums once, i didnt play them but i hit them occasionally. I think I might have pressed a keyboard note in there too. Chris said to call it Feeling fine so I did, you might recognize the real name of the song eventually. I shared a bonus track with everybody that commented on my song last night so if you're interested theres more to be found when you have the time

Since I wasn't able to really participate in the thread last night I am giving everybody who commented on mine and chris's song last night a bonus track to listen to at their leisure. As well if you are interested you can dig through to find the other comments and hear the one they got as everybody gets a unique bonus track as my pennance for missing last night. yours is a drunken serenade of chris singing to his girl while I accompany him on bass, you have to remember that there was a lot of alcohol , involved, his feelings do come through even though we're totally drunken

Sorry I'm late to the party, had to pick the dog up from the vet.

Here is a video I did earlier this week. It's a song I've always really liked about an Irishman who is entranced by a bonnie lass who takes advantage by framing him for a crime and getting him sent off to servitude Australia. Black Velvet Band

Bonus track: One from our recent EP that I posted at the end of the thread last week. The Bonnie Lass of Anglesey

I'm putting on my headphones now and settling in for some great listening and conversation!

Then the bonus track, thats your band that you shared the video of a few weeks back, right? That sounded great too. The fiddle, the guitars, your voice, the drums, all excellent

Thank you! The bonus track is indeed the band. First track on our last EP.

I have always enjoyed the Black Velvet Band, you have a very nice voice, so clear and smooth and very easy to listen to.

The bonnie lass if Anglesey is so cool. Wonderful song, so well done!

I thoroughly enjoyed it, will be downloading this, thank you so much!

Thank you! Very kind. It always feels good to have that kind of compliment from our resident voice. :)

Fantastic, as always. That Telecaster looks like it has some stories to tell.

Hehe. I bought that Tele from Robbie Calvo. He's one of my best friends, and I had been trying to pry it out of his hands for years. He has so many guitars coming in from endorsements that he needed to make room, so last year he reluctantly agreed to sell it to me. I had to agree to give him first right of refusal if I ever decided to sell it, but that will never happen. It's one of the nicest guitars I've had the pleasure of playing.
